Rehearsals

Most rehearsals take place on Mondays between 7.30 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. in St John’s Church Hall, Tunbridge Wells. Members are asked to arrive by 7.25 p.m. and be ready to start singing at 7.30 p.m. There is a short break at around 8.30 p.m. Any changes will be noted in the rehearsal schedule. You will need a soft pencil and eraser for conductor’s markings and should never use ink or a highlighting pen on hired music. Please keep chatter to a minimum during the rehearsal as a courtesy to the conductor.

Learning aids

Various aids are available to assist with learning a work. ChoraLine produces CDs and downloadable mp3 files for much of the regular repertoire. A 10% discount is available to Choir members who enter the word TUNBRIDGE as a discount code in the website’s shopping basket, or who order by phone (07561 445897) and say that they are a member of the Royal Tunbridge Wells Choral Society.

Streamed MIDI and other music files of the more popular choral works can be downloaded free of charge from “Cyberbass ” and “LearnChoralMusic.co.uk“. The latter site also has useful tips on how to play MIDI files on your computer, which varies according to your computer’s operating system and applications.

Subscription

The 2023/24 annual subscription has risen slightly to £150, payable in full in September or in two instalments of £75 (autumn term) and £75 (spring term), payable in September and January. A reduced rate of £25 is charged for members under the age of 25 and, at the discretion of the treasurer, for members who otherwise could not afford to take part.

For works that require a large number of singers, we sometimes invite members of other local choirs to join us on a temporary basis. In such circumstances, an appropriate membership fee will be negotiated with the treasurer.  If you wish to join us on a temporary basis please contact our Membership Secretary, noting that you wish to join only for a specific concert, and quoting any choir of which you are already a member.
