RTWCS is affiliated to Making Music (a registered charity, formerly known as the National Federation of Music Societies). The Society’s Constitution provides for a member of the Committee to act as a representative to Making Music.
The National Federation of Music Societies was founded in 1935 at the instigation of Sir George Dyson (1883-1964) who became its first Chairman and President. He was for a time from 1944 the President of RTWCS and conducted the Choir twice in 1943 and 1944.
The NFMS was rebranded Making Music in 2000 to reflect the diverse nature of the amateur music sector and its membership, representing and supporting around 3,000 voluntary and amateur music groups throughout the UK.
Working with other local choirs
From time to time the choir has combined its forces with other choirs in the region:
- in 2007 with the East Grinstead Choral Society: Haydn Creation under Richard Jenkinson
- in 2012 with the Mayfield Festival Choir: Verdi Requiem under Graham Caldbeck
For other recent concerts the choir has combined forces with choirs from:
- Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar School
- Tonbridge Grammar School
